The Advanced Eyecare Centre is proud to offer quantitate visual field testing! A visual field screening checks your peripheral or side vision for blind spots and areas of reduced sensitivity. This is particularly useful for diagnosing and monitoring eye diseases such as glaucoma as well as conditions affecting the brain like a tumor or stroke.
Who is a good candidate for visual field testing?
If you have any of the following conditions, you are a good candidate for this type of assessment:
- Optic Nerve Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- If you are taking certain medication (e.g. Plaquenil or Chloroquine)
Visual field testing is also required for certain career applications, such as the police or law enforcement. You may also required this form of testing to obtain a drivers license.
Alberta Health Care typically covers the cost of this examination, unless it is required solely for a job application or a driver’s license.
